Hidden Transcripts, 2026, oil on canvas, 152.4 × 96.52 × 2.54 cm (unframed)

In Hidden Transcripts, Jackson reconfigures the canvas as a destabilized screen. Three separate paintings are sewn together, inverted and restretched into a shared interface. What was previously the front of the paintings are now its back, collapsing distinctions between recto and verso as the panels fold into themselves and each other, simultaneously concealing and revealing segments of the original.

In this piece Jackson embeds cutout lenticular fragments into memory foam. The image depicted in the lenticular is that of the inside cover of the American passport. The image flickers to the surface as you move around the piece, from some angles the decorative pattern ‘camouflages’ into the surface of the memory foam while from other angles it stands in stark contrast against the soft material.

The imagery in this work is taken from an early medieval illustration of ‘the body politic.’ The phrase originates from medieval times when it was used to refer to the Catholic Church as the mystical body of Christ, it was later extended to apply to the realm of politics. It draws an analogy between individual body parts as they relate to the function of the whole body to maintain a healthy and stable society.

Ready on the firing line, 2024, wood, salt and vinegar on steel 69 cm x 75 cm

Here salt and vinegar are used as catalysts to create rust, producing the image seen while simultaneously corroding it overtime through oxidation. The imagery used in this piece is taken from an archival U.S. Navy photo book that documents recruit training or ‘boot camp.’ Throughout the photos you can see the constant unmaking and remaking of identity as civilians learn how to become activity duty service members. Like rust, this process is both cumulative and necessarily corrosive.
